Express Trade Chris Commons for Doug Herring Jr.

The Windsor Express have traded the rights to forward Chris Commons to the Saint John Mill Rats for the rights to guard Doug Herring Jr.

Chris Commons has been a member of the Express since their inaugural season in 2012. He was instrumental in helping bring two NBL Canada championships to Windsor in 2014 and 2015. Commons will leave the club as the all-time leader in a number of stat categories including games played, points, rebounds, and blocks.

Head coach Bill Jones had this to remark about Commons, “It was a joy to have Chris on our team for the past 4 seasons. He’ll go down as one of the best players to ever wear an Express jersey. We wish him and his family well in all their future endeavours.”

Herring Jr. is a veteran player in the NBL, having played two seasons, both in Saint John (2013-14 and 2015-16). He played a professional season in Britain during the 2014-15 campaign. Herring Jr. was named an NBL all-star in 2014 after averaging 18 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. Last season he averaged 16.2 points per game.

Trading for player rights means that the clubs have the exclusive rights to sign that player. Players must be signed to a club contract before being invited to main training camp in December.
