The Windsor Express (3-3) lost a heartbreaker, 92-91 on the road to the Niagara River Lions (2-3) at the Meridian Centre.The River Lions were off to a quick start when Adam Blazek hit a deep three.
Maurice Bolden responded with a three of his own to tie the game. The Express were leading the River Lions 14-9 midway through the first quarter, with Maurice Bolden contributing four three pointers alone. The Express were able to finish the quarter with a 21-19 advantage.
The second quarter was a back and forth affair for either team. Niagara opened the quarter with a bucket from Sammy Zeglinski, and Chris Commons immediately responded with a three pointer, making giving the Express back the lead 24-21 within the first two minutes. Throughout the quarter, leads were exchanged between both teams, and each team had tied the score 9 times. Windsor and Niagara finished the first half, tied 46-46.
The Express put up 8 points in the first two minutes of the third quarter, with Maurice Bolden contributing 4 of those 8 points. The River Lions committed three fouls in that time as well, and the Express took back the lead, 54-48. With less than three minutes left in the quarter, the Express had their largest lead of the night, 69-58. The River Lions were able to close the gap in the last minute of the game, but the Express closed the quarter with a 73-65 lead.
Niagara’s offence brought back life into their team in the fourth quarter. Marcus Lewis hit back to back three pointers to tie the game at 81-81 with over seven minutes remaining. Windsor and Niagara tied once again at the 2:04 mark, at 87-87. The lead changed four times in the last two minutes of the game. Russ Conley sealed the win
for Niagara with a jumper as the quarter winded down. Niagara went on to win by one, 92-91. Maurice Bolden finished with 23 points for the Express. Brandon Robinson added 19 points, and this will be his fourth straight game with a double digit performance.
Two of the River Lions players recorded double-double performances: Logan Stutz (24 points, 19 rebounds) and Adam Blazek (12 points, 12 rebounds). The next Windsor Express home game will be Sunday January 10th against the Niagara River Lions for a 2:00pm game start. Windsor Express Stat Leaders
