Windsor Spitfires 2019 OHL Trade Deadline Moves
MacDougall traded to Erie
General Manager Warren Rychel has traded Mathew MacDougall to the Erie Otters in exchange for a trio of draft picks. In return, the Spitfires get Erie’s 4th round pick in the 2022 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection, Erie’s 5th in 2022, and Sault Ste Marie’s 6th round pick in 2021. In 106 regular season games, MacDougall scored 26 times with 23 assists with a -21 rating and 30 penalty minutes.
Garagan acquired from Hamilton
The Spitfires have acquired forward Ben Garagan from the Hamilton Bulldogs. In exchange, Hamilton gets Windsor’s 15th round pick in the 2022 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. Garagan, 20, has played 189 games with the Bulldogs and Sudbury Wolves over parts of four seasons, posting eight goals and 17 assists to go along with 116 penalty minutes.
Spits acquire rights to Bernard
The Spitfires also acquired the rights to goalie Jackson Bernard from the Erie Otters. In exchange, Erie receives the rights to forward Reid Russett. Bernard, 17, was Erie’s 15th round pick (#300 overall) in the 2017 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. A native of Huntley, Illinois, Bernard has appeared in seven games this season with the LaSalle Vipers (the Spitfires’ Junior B affiliate) of the GOJHL, posting a 3.63 goals against average and an .822 save percentage. Russett, 17, was Windsor’s second round pick (#30 overall) in the 2018 Ontario Hockey League Under-18 Priority Selection back in April. The Ottawa native has appeared in 33 games with the Smith Falls Bears of the CCHL this season, scoring four times and adding 12 assists along with 22 penalty minutes.
Patton Traded to Guelph
In a final move the Spitfires traded Goaltender Lucas Patton to the Guelph Storm for a 12th round pick in the 2020 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. Patton, 19, appeared in six games for the Spitfires during the 2017-18 season, posting a 3.24 goals against average and an .894 save percentage. This season’s Ontario Hockey League trade deadline has passed as of the noon hour.
