RED WINGS SIGN LASHOFF TO TWO-YEAR EXTENSION

The Wings have signed defenseman Brian Lashoff to a two-year contract extension.

Lashoff, 28, originally joined the Red Wings organization as an undrafted free agent on Sept. 30, 2008, appearing in 444 American Hockey League games with the Grand Rapids Griffins and 123 NHL games with the Red Wings in that span. During his time with Detroit, Lashoff has notched 13 points (2-11-13) and 57 penalty minutes, also logging eight NHL Stanley Cup Playoff games. With the Griffins, the Albany, N.Y., native has registered 95 points (21-74-95) and 219 penalty minutes, also tallying 19 points (5-14-19) and 34 penalty minutes in 73 AHL Calder Cup Playoff games. In 44 games for Grand Rapids this season, Lashoff has chipped in 11 points (0-11-11), a plus-eight rating and 25 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-3, 219-pound defenseman is one of three two-time Calder Cup champions in Griffins franchise history, winning AHL championships in 2013 and 2017. Prior to his professional career, Lashoff logged four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League and recorded 91 points (20-71-91) and 186 penalty minutes in 215 games with the Barrie Colts and Kingston Frontenacs from 2006-10. Lashoff also won a gold medal for the United States at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship in Saskatchewan, picking up two assists in seven games.
