St. Clair Basketball Regular Season Finale

St. Clair Basketball Hosts Redeemer Saturday in Regular Season Finale
The St. Clair College Basketball teams finish their OCAA West Division regular season schedules Saturday night when they host Redeemer University (Ancaster) as part of a busy day at the SportsPlex. The Women tip at 6:00pm followed by the Men’s game at 8:00pm. Admission is free for the basketball doubleheader compliments of the St. Clair Alumni Association which takes place after the Women’s Volleyball crossover playoff matchup against George Brown at 2:00pm. The Saints will be recognizing their graduating basketball players before each game as well as the golf and cross-country grads at halftime of the Women’s game.
The St. Clair Women (5-10) are ranked #9 in this week’s OCAA provincial poll and need a win over Redeemer (4-11) to hold onto 6th Place in the West which will determine their crossover playoff opponent from the East Division being played next weekend. In their other matchup with Redeemer three months ago, the Saints lost 65-61 in Ancaster.
St. Clair is led in scoring by 3rd year transfer guard Kaelyn Batten (Windsor, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) who sits 6th in the province at 15.0ppg to go with 5.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game adding a team best 2.2 steals per contest. Batten is also logging over 35 minutes a game and converts nearly 72% of her free throws which is top 10 in both of those OCAA categories. 4th year guard Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) is also not short on playing time with over 38 minutes per game (OCAA 3rd) and leads the Saints in rebounding (6.9) and assists (4.2) per game while netting 11.1ppg.
The St. Clair Men (15-2) remain in 2nd Place of the West Division as the OCAA’s #2 ranked team and hold #6 spot in the national poll. The Saints got by Redeemer (3-13) by a score of 109-97 in Ancaster on Nov. 8th.
4th year transfer guard Jacob Masters (Toronto, ON) and 4th year forward Mazin Tiea (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) both average an identical 16.3ppg for St. Clair which is 10th and 11th respectively in the province. Tiea likes to do his work around the basket and is 3rd in field goal conversion at 60.7% adding 9.0rpg (OCAA 5th) and has the most OCAA blocks at 3.0 per game. In contrast, Masters sets up shop far from the hoop making the most triples in the league with the 7th best rate of success making over 40% from distance and adds 2.6 assists per game. St. Clair’s 3rd year transfer guard Kyle Brown-Fazekas (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) averages 13.3ppg along with 5.0 rebounds per contest. 3rd year transfer swing player Amari Frye (Ypsilanti, MI) is the top assist man in the province at 5.4 per game and nets 11.6ppg for the Saints and adds 4.2 rebounds a game.
