Ian Kinsler Awarded AL Gold Glove

Detroit Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler was named the Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner for American League second basemen, as announced earlier tonight.

The award marks the first time in Kinsler’s career that he has won a Gold Glove and he is the first Tigers second baseman to win the award since Placido Polanco in 2009.

In 151 games at second base in 2016, Kinsler had a .988 fielding percentage, committing just nine errors in 744 total chances. Kinsler led all AL second basemen with a 5.09 range factor per nine innings, while he was tied for the lead among AL second basemen with 12 defensive runs saved. He also ranked second among AL second basemen with 303 putouts and 432 assists, while he was fifth with a .988 fielding percentage.

As an AL Gold Glove Award winner, Kinsler is a finalist for the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award presented by the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR). Fans can vote for Kinsler for the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award by visiting rawlings.com. Voting begins at 9 p.m. tonight and will continue until 9 p.m. tomorrow. The winner of the Platinum Glove Award will be unveiled at the 2016 Rawlings Gold Glove Award Ceremony on Friday, November 11, 2016.
