2017 IIHF World Championship Recap Canada vs Slovenia
PARIS, France – Canada scored three times in the first period, added three more in the second and skated to a 7-2 win over Slovenia at the IIHF World Championship Sunday at the AccorHotels Arena.
- Nathan MacKinnon (Cole Harbour, N.S./Colorado, NHL) led the way for the Canadian team recording a hat trick and adding an assist for a four-point game. MacKinnon’s Colorado teammate, Tyson Barrie (Victoria) also tallied four points with a goal and three assists in the game. Mitch Marner (Thornhill, Ont./Toronto, NHL), Brayden Point (Calgary/Tampa Bay, NHL) and Jeff Skinner (Toronto/Carolina, NHL) rounded out the scoring.
- Travis Konecny (Clachan, Ont./Philadelphia, NHL) chipped in with three assists, while Chad Johnson (Calgary/Calgary, NHL) picked up his first win of the tournament making 12 saves.
- Canada outshot Slovenia 51-14.
Next game: Team Canada (2-0) is back in action on Monday, May 8, at 8 a.m. ET when they face Belarus (0-2).
