NHL OCTOBER 26, 2025 – HUGHES’ OVERTIME HEROICS DELIVER DEVILS’ EIGHTH STRAIGHT WIN

Jack Hughes (2-0—2) helped New Jersey jump to an early lead by scoring the second of two Devils goals 39 seconds apart before Colorado clawed back with two tallies of their own to level the game. After both teams traded goals in the third period, the stage was set for overtime where Hughes potted the winner and helped his team extend the League’s longest winning streak of the season to eight games.

  • Hughes, who is tied with Mark Scheifele and Shane Pinto (both w/ 8) for the League-lead in goals this season, netted his ninth career overtime winner and passed Scott Niedermayer (8) for the second most in franchise history, behind only Patrik Elias (16). Hughes (28 GP) also moved into a tie for third on the club’s all-time multi-goal games list, trailing John MacLean (62 GP) and Elias (52 GP).
  • The Devils are one of four undefeated teams at home in 2025-26 and started a season with five straight home wins for the third time in franchise history, following 1987-88 (8 GP) and 1993-94 (5 GP). New Jersey’s eight-game winning streak is tied for its second longest in the past 15 years, behind a 13-contest stretch in 2022-23.

UTAH KEEPS PACE WITH SEVENTH STRAIGHT WIN

A few hours after the Devils (8-1-0, 16 points) extended their win streak to sit atop the overall NHL standings, the Mammoth (8-2-0, 16 points) pushed their win streak to a franchise-best seven consecutive games to join New Jersey (in terms of standings points).

SAN JOSE TEENAGERS HELP SHARKS SURVIVE WILD RALLIES

In a contest that saw the Wild rally from a multi-goal deficit two separate times, it was the Sharks’ young stars that found the score sheet to help San Jose secure the victory, with Macklin Celebrini (1-2—3) factoring on three goals – including scoring the overtime winner – and Michael Misa (1-0—1) netting the first of his NHL career.

  • Celebrini (19 years, 135 days) boosted his career totals to 31-47—78 (79 GP) and tied Patrick Marleau (34-43—77 in 155 GP) for the most points by a Sharks player before age 20. He also became the second teenager in NHL history to record 12 or more points through his team’s first five road games in a season (6-6—12 in 9 GP), following Sidney Crosby (4-9—13 in 2006-07).
  • Misa (18 years, 252 days) became the fifth-youngest player in Sharks history at the time of their first NHL goal and fourth-youngest player in NHL history to record a point in each of his first three road games to start a career, behind only Crosby (7 GP in 2005-06; 18 years, 88 days), Connor Bedard (3 GP in 2023-24; 18 years, 89 days) and Bobby Carpenter (4 GP in 1981-82; 18 years, 103 days).
  • Misa and Celebrini weren’t the only teenagers to find the back of the net in the contest: Zeev Buium (19 years, 323 days) tallied for Minnesota. It marked the first time that three teenagers scored in the same game since Feb. 19, 2011 (Evander Kane w/ ATL, Magnus Paajarvi & Taylor Hall both w/ EDM).

KAPRIZOV MILESTONE, STARS COMEBACK

A bevy of notes from Sunday’s action can be found in #NHLStats: Live Updates, including the Stars earning multi-goal comeback wins in back-to-back days, Kirill Kaprizov hitting a milestone and an overtime winner from Nikita Kucherov.

  • Kaprizov registered three assists to reach 400 career points (190-210—400 in 329 GP). He became the fastest player in Wild history to reach the milestone and required the fourth-fewest games (tied) among active skaters to reach the benchmark, alongside Sidney Crosby (292 GP), Connor McDavid (306 GP), Alex Ovechkin (314 GP) and Evgeni Malkin (329 GP).
  • One day after reaching the 1,000-point milestone on Saturday, Kucherov scored the overtime winner on Sunday to give the Lightning back-to-back wins for the first time this season. Kucherov (8) moved into a tie with Vincent Lecavalier and Victor Hedman for fourth on the all-time franchise overtime goal list behind Steven Stamkos (13), Brayden Point (12) and Martin St. Louis (10).
  • On Saturday, the Stars trailed the Hurricanes 2-0 and rallied for a 3-2 win. It was deja vu on Sunday, as Dallas again fell behind 2-0 to the Predators before ultimately prevailing with a 3-2 victory. It marked the first two multi-goal comeback wins of the season for the Stars, already half their total from the 2024-25 campaign (4). Dallas is the second team in the first month of the 2025-26 season to record multi-goal come-from-behind wins on consecutive calendar days (also VAN: Oct. 16-17).

PRIME MONDAY NIGHT HOCKEY IN CANADA’S CAPITAL

Primer before tonight’s Bruins-Senators game on Prime Monday Night Hockey (7:30 p.m. ET).

  • David Pastrnak (396-450—846 in 766 GP) is within reach of the 400-goal milestone and can become the sixth-fastest player born outside North America to reach the plateau. He can inch closer to the mark against a Senators team he has 45 career points against (20-25—45 in 32 GP), tied for his most versus a single opponent (also 45 vs. BUF & PHI).
  • Shane Pinto (8-1—9 in 9 GP) is tied for the League lead in goals and can match the Senators benchmark for fewest games to 10 goals in a season (Bob Kudelski: 10 GP in 1993-94).
  • Linus Ullmark could face Boston for the third time since his three-season tenure with the Bruins ended (a stint that included a Vezina Trophy during the club’s record-setting 2022-23 campaign). Ullmark is 2-0-0 against his former club since joining the Senators and can become the third goaltender in NHL history to win his first three games against a franchise after winning a Vezina Trophy with them – he would join Ed Belfour (4 GP vs. CHI) and Patrick Roy (3 GP vs. MTL).

Celebrini, Cooley and Hughes Named NHL ‘Three Stars’ of the Week

San Jose Sharks center Macklin Celebrini, Utah Mammoth center Logan Cooley and New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes have been named the NHL’s “Three Stars” for the week ending Oct. 26.

FIRST STAR – MACKLIN CELEBRINI, C, SAN JOSE SHARKS

Celebrini led the NHL with 5-5—10 in four games to power the Sharks (2-5-2, 6 points) to their first two wins of the season. He scored once in a 4-3 loss to the New York Islanders Oct. 21. The 19-year-old Celebrini then notched 3-2—5, including the primary assist on Will Smith’s overtime winner, in a 6-5 victory against the New York Rangers Oct. 23. It marked Celebrini’s second career five-point performance (also April 9, 2025 at MIN: 3-2—5), making him the fourth player in League history with multiple such outings before turning 20. The others: Wayne Gretzky (5x), Dale Hawerchuk (2x) and Bryan Trottier (2x). Celebrini added an assist on San Jose’s lone goal in a 3-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils Oct. 24 before finishing the week with 1-2—3, capped by his second career overtime tally (also Nov. 18, 2024 vs. DET), in a 6-5 triumph versus the Minnesota Wild Oct. 26. Celebrini, the No. 1 overall pick from the 2024 NHL Draft and a finalist for the 2024-25 Calder Memorial Trophy (25-38—63 in 70 GP), places third in the League with 6‑9—15 through nine total appearances this season. Only four other teenagers in NHL history have posted as many points through their first nine games of a given campaign: Trottier (6-12—18 in 1975-76 w/ NYI), Gretzky (5-11—16 in 1980-81 w/ EDM), Sidney Crosby (6-9—15 in 2006-07 w/ PIT) and Elias Pettersson (9-6—15 in 2018-19 w/ VAN).

SECOND STAR – LOGAN COOLEY, C, UTAH MAMMOTH

Cooley ranked second in the NHL with 5-3—8 in four contests to propel the Mammoth (8-2-0, 16 points) to a perfect week as they extended their winning streak to a franchise-record seven games dating to Oct. 15. He was held without a point in a 4-3 overtime victory against the Colorado Avalanche Oct. 21, but rebounded with a career-best 3-1—4 – including his second hat trick (also March 28, 2024 vs. NSH) – in a 7-4 triumph over the St. Louis Blues Oct. 23. Cooley followed that with 2-1—3, his eighth career three-point performance, in a 6-2 win versus the Minnesota Wild Oct. 25 before picking up the primary assist on the tiebreaking goal in a 3-2 victory against the Winnipeg Jets Oct. 26. The 21-year-old Cooley – the third overall pick from the 2022 NHL Draft – owns 7-4—11 through his first 10 outings of 2025-26, with his seven goals one off the League lead shared by Jack Hughes, Shane Pinto and Mark Scheifele (all w/ 8).

THIRD STAR – JACK HUGHES, C, NEW JERSEY DEVILS

Hughes (5-1—6 in 4 GP) matched Celebrini and Cooley for the League lead in goals as the Devils (8-1-0, 16 points) moved to the top of the NHL standings by stretching their winning streak to eight games dating to Oct. 11. He registered his third career hat trick in a 5-2 triumph over the Toronto Maple Leafs Oct. 21. Hughes, who did not record a point in a 4-1 win versus the Minnesota Wild Oct. 22, then collected the primary assist on the decisive goal in a 3-1 victory against the San Jose Sharks Oct. 24 before closing the week with a pair of goals (including his ninth career overtime winner) in a 4-3 decision versus the Colorado Avalanche Oct. 26. The 24-year-old Hughes, the No. 1 overall pick from the 2019 NHL Draft, is tied for first place in the NHL with eight goals through nine total appearances this season (8‑4—12).
