Red Bull GRC Opens in Phoenix, AZ (May 16, 2016) with Wild Horse Pass doubleheader.
Red Bull GRC kicks off its 2016 season with a brand new event this weekend at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona. Red Bull GRC opens in Phoenix on a .929-mile, 12 turn course, featuring a diverse mix of technical corners, challenging dirt sections, and fast straightaways.
The inaugural Red Bull GRC Phoenix doubleheader will serve as the first and second rounds on this year’s schedule.
Scott Speed and Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross enter the season as defending Supercar champions, but they’ll face stiff competition from a fully reloaded field. Honda joins the fray for the first time in 2016, partnering with Olsbergs MSE for a two-car effort with Joni Wiman and Sebastian Eriksson.
Brian Deegan makes his return to full-time competition for the first time in three years, going for the title with Chip Ganassi Racing, while motocross legend Jeff Ward steps into the driver’s seat for SH Rallycross. Even Speed’s teammate Tanner Foust, who won a career-best three main events last year, will be keen on wresting the title away from his driving partner.
In GRC Lites, Oliver Eriksson returns to defend his title against the stiffest competition in class history. Returning drivers like Alejandro Fernandez, Alex Keyes, and Collete Davis, as well as rookies like Travis Pecoy, Cole Keatts, and Cabot Bigham, will attempt to knock off Eriksson for the top spot in the first doubleheader of the year.
